Sun shined down onto the wooded school campus, its rays giving warmth and light to those under it, and while that was an amazing concept, Kobie wanted it to fuck off. Groaning loudly the teen rolled over in his bed shuffling deeper into his bed to hide away from the ungodly light that broke through the small opening in his curtains. It was Saturday damn it. The one day a week he didn't have class and fuck this whole mess of waking up before ten. Finding his phone slipped between his pillow and bed he fished it out, not bothering to deal with the messages yet to check the time.

"For fucks sake." The teen groaned tossing his phone down to toss a pillow over his head to hide from the satanic light. Whoever came up with 8:15 was evil. Very evil. Satan. He knew sooner or later someone would come wake him up. One of his friends most likely, he really needed friends that slept in like normal fucking teenagers.

Tucking himself deeper into the bed he tried to force himself back asleep before someone undoubtedly came and dragged his ass out of bed.

Wake up.

Kobie.

Seriously, this is important. Wake up.

Wake up you twat.

Cillian glared down at his phone and the open school-approved-messenger app. A whole slew of unread text messages dotted the screen, waiting for eyes that probably wouldn’t see them for another several hours.

8:15

That was the most recent time for the sent messages, but the first he’d sent about an hour ago.

It wasn’t even that early. They’d be up earlier than this on a school day, so he didn’t see why being up at this time on any other day would be a problem. The body would already be used to doing it, after all. His was, at least. Then again, his was used to only a few hours of sleep a day (or across multiple days) so he was quite possibly an exception. He couldn’t expect others to conform to his ridiculous sleep schedules, but damn it he wished they did.

He’d been sitting at his desk putting the final touches on an essay he’d been working on since the middle of last week, working by lamplight so as not to disturb his roommate, when the sun had started to rise. Naturally, he;d paused in working to watch. It wasn’t often that one got to see the sun rise in this part of the country. It was usually so dreary and cloudy, you’d be lucky to see the sun at all. So, watching it rise was a bit of a treat. The colors changing alone made taking a pause from work worth it. But it was what Cillian had seen as he watched the sun crest the tops of the tall, shrewd evergreens that had made him stand up and go to the window for a closer look.

There was a glimmer.

It was quick, almost imperceptible, but he’d caught it. At least he’d thought he did. He didn’t see it again, but there was something.

That’s why he was outside now.

Cillian stood with his arms crossed over himself as he squinted up and over the tall cobblestone walls that surrounded the school, trying to track the motion of the sun across the sky. He’d caught the glimmer again, but it had been just as brief as the first time he’d seen it. A faint shimmer in the air, like what happened when it was hot out and the heat made things look almost wavy in the distance. The chill in the air, though, was proof that that wasn’t the cause of the strange ripple. Cold dew was soaking through the hem of his pajama pants and his hastily pulled on sneakers. It was definitely not hot enough for that…

He sighed as he looked back down at his phone and began typing another hasty message to Kobie. The other boy was going to be annoyed with all of the texts, but this was important. There was something strange going on in the sky.

East Wall. Bring a jacket.

Pressing his face into the pillow Kobie gave a loud groan into its softness before deflating and sliding the chiming phone closer turning his head to look at the screen. Blinking blearily at the bright screen.

Cil

Wake up.

Kobie.

Seriously, this is important. Wake up.

Wake up you twat.

East Wall. Bring a jacket.

Groaning again Kobie deflated into his bed. Of course Cil was up at this ungodly hour, Kobie would bet money that Cil hadn't even sleep the night before or the night before that. He was going to have to see to it the boy took a nap sometime today. Pushing himself out of bed the teen ran a hand over his head, his messy hair flopping back into his face before he shook it out of his eyes as he got out of bed.

Taking his time to stand, his leg giving him a twinge of pain every morning. Kobie wiggled his toes to try and get feeling back in them before standing and wiggling his whole leg to make sure it wasn't going to give way like it had before, it was like it had a mind of its own some times.

Yanking on some comfortable jeans and pulling on a shirt that didn't smell too ripe, followed by some sneakers and his old leather jacket that once belonged to his dad, he quickly grabbed an old hoodie and his phone before heading to the yard.

Walking up behind Cillian he rolled his eyes fondly at the fact the other guy was totally shivering in his pjs which meant he probably came out in a hurry, no way would the older male be seen in temps below 80 so under dressed. Kobie followed the awkward angle the boy's neck was, seeming to follow the sun. Was the guy trying to become blind?

Pushing the hood over his arched head, covering Cillian's face from blinding himself with pure solar power. "Please tell me you didn't drag me out here to watch you blind yourself for science." Kobie teased grinning down at the other before dropping an arm over the other's shoulders and arching back to stare at the sky. "Speaking of what are we doing here?"

Cillian was far too focused on finding another of the strange glimmers in the sky to hear the faint crunching of grass as someone approached him. His body jerked in shock though as his vision was suddenly darkened as someone dropped something over his head. There was a sharp stabbing of fear deep in his core that he didn’t quite understand as he pulled the shroud away, finding it to just be the hood of the hoodie Kobie had dropped over his head. Cillian reached up to rub his eyes. The sudden change from bright to dark made his vision fuzz slightly for a moment. Finally, as it settled, he blinked bleary dark rimmed eyes up at Kobie.

“Thanks,” he muttered as he pulled the hoodie on over his head, mussing his already wild curly hair. Kobie wasn’t a large boy, but his hoodie almost swallowed Cillian’s small, almost frail form. He pushed the sleeves back so that his hands could actually be free of the fabric. Once free, though, he was quick to shove his hands into the front pocket.

The weight of Kobie’s arm falling over his shoulders made his heart stutter in beat for a moment. He wanted to lean against the other, but remained standing straight. It would be easier that way. To look at the sky, he meant…

“I’m not looking at the sun,” Cillian clarified. He reached up and angled Kobie’s face so that he would be looking in the spot where the last glimmer in the sky had been. He’d seen it just once more while waiting on Kobie to join him. He was afraid that the higher the sun got in the sky the harder it would be to see the phenomenon. “There is something strange going on in the sky.”

For the sake of the experiment, he wasn’t going to specifically mention what was strange about the sky. He couldn’t risk Kobie’s perception being tainted just so he would get an answer he liked more. If Kobie saw nothing, fine. But if he saw something Cillian wanted to hear it in his own words. It would feel more real that way. More like he wasn’t losing his mind by thinking the sky wavered....

Kobie felt a smile curl on his lips as the smaller male scrambled for his sight again, relaxing when he realized there was no danger other than Kobie around and he knew Kobie wouldn't harm him. Smiling at the dark ringed eyes. They would be having another talk about Cillian not sleeping, or at least trying to get rest. This whole insomnia thing was going to end up killing Cillian, and Kobie be damned if he didn't force the boy to sleep later.

Fighting the quip on his tongue about the male's body size, and how him wearing his clothes was totally the trope of boyfriend shirt. Instead he kept his mouth shut and draped an arm over the other and looked up.

"Well that's good because I was worried." Kobie chuckled before looking back at the other with the comment. Cil was one hundred percent serious, which worried Kobie for two reasons, Cillian had finally knocked something loose from lack of sleeping, or....there was something wrong with the sky. Feeling his lips twist, Kobie turned back to the sky and looked for any signs of strange things with the sky.

After a moment Kobie frown and shook his head. "Cillian....I don't see anything, I don't think."

He stood watching the sky in the same place where he told Kobie to look. At one point, though, he looked away from the sky to just look at Kobie. The light of the sun caught in the other's eyes, lighting them up in a way that made Cillian think of sunlight shining through autumn leaves. People who said brown eyes weren't beautiful had never looked hard enough, or at least they'd never seen Kobie's.

At the sight of the frown coming to Kobie's face as he stared up at the sky, Cillian tore his attention away and looked back up. He frowned too as he pulled a hand from the pocket of the hoodie and reached up a hand to push some of his hair from his face.

Nothing?

While not impossible and unlike what Cillian had expected to hear, it still made his heart sink in his chest. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the sky, but like Kobie, he no longer saw anything out of the ordinary.

Had he just imagined it all?

Cillian looked down at the ground, rubbing his hand against his eyes again. They stung from too much exposure to light and from the perpetual exhaustion he felt. Maybe not sleeping was catching up with him. He hadn't had a night's sleep in a few days at least. Maybe more. He stopped keeping track of all of it a long time ago. Not saying he hadn't slept at all, just not much and not at night. He caught a few minutes or an hour here and there.

"I... may have just imagined it then," he said reluctantly as he looked back up at Kobie. He shrugged and smiled, trying to play it off. "Must have just been a trick of the light."

But he didn't really believe that... he had seen something.

Brown eyes flitted along the sky looking for any abnormalities, though without a base to know what he's looking for he didn't know what Cillian had possibly seen. They could write it off from lack of sleep, the idea might knock something in Cillian to try and get more sleep from now on. But hearing the defeated words Kobie felt his chest tighten, shit, Cillian really saw something.

But what could he have...

"Wait..." Kobie grabbed the other teen's wrist as he stared harder, careful not to look directly at the sun he swears he saw something. There then not. Flicking. Kobie's eyes began to water causing him to blink and it was gone. Kobie dropped his head using the hand not hold Cil's wrist to rub his sore eyes.

"Shit..."Kobie hissed as he rubbed furiously at his face. "I think..." Blinking Kobie looked up at Cillian and rubbed at his eye. "I don't know it might have been the sun...I don't know maybe. Fuck my eyes hurt from staring." Kobie whined blinking his eyes rapidly.

Cillian's disappointment faltered as Kobie's hand quickly seized his wrist as if he was trying to keep him from walking away. While startled by the sudden movement, he definitely wasn't upset by it. The words that came with it made Cillian feel a little more sure about what he'd seen. He looked back up at Kobie, watching the other's face as he looked back up at the sky. Cillian couldn't help his smile, watching Kobie focus so intently on the sky.

He was trying so hard to just make it so Cillian wouldn't be disappointed... It was just a small thing, but it was endearing to say the very least.

Endearing, but the idiot was practically staring up into the sun.

"You're going to blind yourself," Cillian said hesitantly, though he didn't speak so loud as to break the concentration that Kobie had formed looking up at the sky. His expression grew sympathetic as Kobie finally looked down and started to rub at his eyes. He smiled up at the other boy, his narrow shoulders raising in a slight shrug. "Even if there is something it's not worth losing your sight over." He raised the hand Kobie wasn't holding captive to reach up and shield some more of light shining down on them.

"Sorry to wake you up for this," he said apologetically. He really had thought he'd seen something, but as Kobie constantly harped on him about, it was probably just a result of his sleep deprivation. He offered a sheepish up at Kobie, "Can I make it up to you?"
