welcome

Have you ever gone walking through a forest and felt as though you saw a glimmer of something strange? Driving down the road and could have sworn that section of road should have lasted a few more seconds? Welcome to Twin Brooks, Washington. You won't find us on any map, nor can you just stumble across us whilst on a hike. To get here, you need magic. Now, don't get me wrong, quite a few of our little ol' town are “Normies,” but the rest-- myself included, mind you-- are anything but normal. But don't let that trouble you folk, alright?

It was a magnificent sight, though Oliver was sure it was probably a fire hazard, and it was definitely not very environmentally friendly. He watched as lanterns lifted up from the crowd on the white sand beach, leaving their hands to float lazily into the sky out over the bay. There were so many of them. The light of the lanterns joined the light of the stars reflecting on the surface of the water. Some were already losing height and drifting pathetically down into the water. Was someone going to clean this mess up, or were the lanterns going to be left in the water. The small packs of kerosene used to fuel the fire that lifted the lanterns couldn’t be good for the fish…

Oliver stood toward the back of the crowd, leaning against a gnarled tree lining the bay. His bare arms crossed tightly over his chest to keep the warmth of his body close. It had been such a pleasant day earlier, but now it was dipping into colder temperatures. He wanted to be in one of his warmer forms, but it wouldn’t be wise to just change his shape in the middle of the crowd. This was a magical community, yes, but in his experience even magical people tended to abhor his kind. Besides, he was more approachable this way. A new face in town, and a sweet face at that. Some people just couldn’t resist.

Tapping the toe of his well-worn sneakers against the loose stones where he stood, Oliver directed his attention away from the lanterns to focus on the crowd. There were so many children and impressionable young adults here. Such a young town. Perfect for mischief and peddling his wares. He was going to have a fun time here, he just knew it. He’d only been here for a couple of days, but word spread fast. A new guy was in town and he had good shit. He’d already made enough money to pay for a hotel for the week. If this was any indicator for how the rest of his time here was going to go, his pockets were going to be heavy with cash and this sleepy little town rife with chaos by the time he was ready to dip out.

This was going to be so much fun.

The time had come. What better way to present oneself than a festivity. This would be the best time to make first impressions and to see how this town acts. Verinda compared her best dresses deciding that her green silk dress would be fine for her first encounter. She left her new home to the beach, head held high and confidence in her step.

She found herself in awe at the lights floating over a blue landscape. "For whom would such a magnificent display be reserved for?" She scanned the crowd, watching as people released more phantoms into the sky, looking for the reason this event was being held. "They really made a festival for the changing of the seasons," she asked herself as she stopped before the sand.
